The possible quest in question must include a quester, a place to go, a stated reason to go there, challenges and trials along the way, and a real reason to go there. With only these five requirements many trips may be considered a quest so when anyone ventures out it should be paid attention to. However, not everything is a quest because in order for it to be a true quest the quester must face an issue and overcome it to experience growth. Okonkwo goes on a quest when he is exiled. Okonkwo himself is the quester, his destination is to his mother’s old tribe where he will spend his seven year exile, his stated reason for going is that he must leave his home village as he has been exiled, the challenges he faces along the way include the tribulations with the church missionaries who test the traditional African lifestyle and cause a lot of upset, and his real reason to go there is to learn the importance of family values and how his temper is too aggressive. Okonkwo is supposed to learn through his quest how important his lifestyle is to him and how much he actually values his family rather than getting caught up in trying to be the manliest he can be.
